Vinted lost parcel as a seller: how long, and who pays?

Checked on 27 October 2026 against each carrier's and platform's own pages · General information, not legal advice

The short answer: it depends on whose label you used.

  • Vinted's prepaid label: Vinted gives the parcel 25 business days (excluding weekends and bank holidays) to arrive before it will look into it, and Vinted pays you, up to £500, once the carrier confirms the parcel is lost or damaged.
  • Your own label: Vinted says to contact the shipping provider directly. The carrier's claim deadline applies, and it's already running (most carriers count from the day you posted or booked). For an InPost label bought on InPost's own site it can be as short as 7 days.

First, check which label you used

This one question decides who pays you and how long you have.

With a Vinted label: how long you wait

Vinted's help page on slow parcels says: "The parcel has a total of 25 business days (excluding weekends and bank holidays) to arrive." It adds that Vinted "can't investigate the situation until 25 business days have passed since you shipped the parcel or before the tracking status in your conversation screen on Vinted changes to 'lost'" (Vinted help: shipping is taking longer than expected).

So, unless the tracking flips to "lost" sooner, expect to wait about five working weeks. For example, a parcel shipped on Monday 2 November 2026 reaches 25 business days on about Monday 7 December 2026 (England and Wales have no bank holidays in that period; Vinted doesn't say which UK nation's holidays it uses).

Once your conversation screen says the parcel may be lost, Vinted says the buyer has 2 days to confirm whether it arrived. If you're a Pro seller, the buyer has 14 days to raise a claim (Vinted help 1365).

With a Vinted label: who pays, and how much

Vinted's page doesn't ask you to claim from the carrier yourself in this case. Keep your proof of posting (the drop-off receipt or scan) and photos of how you packed the item, in case Vinted asks.

With your own label: the carrier's clock is already running

This is where sellers lose money. If you paid for your own postage, your claim is with the carrier, under the carrier's rules, and those deadlines don't wait for Vinted's 25 business days. Some carrier windows close well before then:

Parcelforce isn't in this table yet: we've found conflicting deadlines and haven't confirmed them on Parcelforce's own pages. See the all-carrier guide for what each source says.

So a seller who posts with their own InPost or DPD label, then waits five weeks for Vinted, can be out of time with the carrier. If the parcel looks stuck, start the carrier's process early. Evri, for example, says "the sooner you make your claim, the easier it is for us to investigate" (Evri terms, clause 7.3).

Work out your own deadline. Pick the carrier you paid, enter the date you posted, and see the last day to claim, plus the evidence that carrier asks for.

What to do now

  1. Check your label. Vinted-generated, or one you paid for yourself?
  2. Vinted label: keep an eye on the conversation screen. Wait for the 25 business days or a "lost" status, then follow Vinted's steps.
  3. Own label: find your proof of posting and the receipt for the item, and work out the carrier's deadline today. If the carrier lets you claim already, don't wait.
  4. Either way: keep photos of the item and packaging, the tracking number and your drop-off receipt.

Frequently asked questions

How long before Vinted says a parcel is lost?

Vinted says the parcel has 25 business days (excluding weekends and bank holidays) to arrive, and it can't investigate before then unless the tracking status changes to "lost" first.

Who pays the seller if a Vinted parcel is lost?

If you used Vinted's prepaid label, Vinted compensates you, up to £500, once the carrier confirms the parcel is lost or damaged. If you used your own postage, Vinted says to contact the shipping provider directly, so you claim from the carrier under its rules.

How long does the buyer have to confirm?

Once the conversation screen says the parcel may be lost, Vinted says the buyer has 2 days to confirm whether it arrived. For a Pro seller, the buyer has 14 days to raise a claim.

I used my own InPost label. How long do I have?

InPost's claims form says lost-parcel claims must be made within 7 days for labels bought on InPost's own website or app, but it doesn't say when the 7 days start. Claim as soon as you can and check with InPost. Labels from Vinted or other platforms go through that platform instead.

Not legal advice. This guide summarises each carrier's and platform's own published pages, checked on 27 October 2026. Terms change, and your contract may differ (for example with a business account, a marketplace label or a parcel broker). Always check the carrier's current terms before you rely on a date, and claim as early as you can. ClaimMinder never files claims for you and takes no cut of any compensation.
